BMW Front Door Component Speakers

Introduction
The following instructions will guide you through the installation process for replacing the Front Door Component Speakers in the factory locations of your BMW.
TIP Before you begin, review these instructions thoroughly and ensure that all parts are present and tools are available.

↳ Required Tools
- #2 Phillips Screwdriver
- Hook Tool
- Panel Tool
- Ratchet Wrench
- Sockets: 7mm, 10mm
- Torx: T-27
Front Door Panel Removal
Follow the instructions below to remove the front door panel.
- Roll down the window.
- Remove the ABS screw cover with a hook tool.
- Remove the one (1) T-27 bolt.
- Remove the screw cover at the front of the door panel with a hook tool.
- Remove the one (1) Phillips screw.
- Using a panel tool, release the door clips around the edge of the door panel.
TIP Start at the bottom, then move to the sides and then the top.
- Disconnect the door handle cable from the door panel to the door mechanism.
- Disconnect the airbag connector from the airbag with a pick tool to depress the connector.
- Disconnect the connections from the door panel to the door.
TIP The connections are lights located at the door handle, side and bottom of the door panel, and the window switch.
- Disconnect the speaker wire from the speaker attached to the door panel.
- Place the detached door panel aside to work on the speaker installation.
Tweeter Removal
Follow the instructions below to remove the tweeter.
- Remove the upper window trim with a panel tool.
TIP Start at the rear and work your way forward (highlighted below).
- Disconnect the clip at the front of the panel, next to the tweeter (circled below).
- Once the trim panel is removed detach the tweeter by pulling back on the clips with a hook tool.
- Remove the OE tweeter from the factory location.
Speaker Installation
Follow the instructions below to install the speakers.
Door Speaker Installation
Follow the instructions below to install the door speakers.
- Place the door panel on a flat surface.
- To remove the bracket, locate and remove the nuts (highlighted below):
- Three (3) 10mm
- One (1) 7mm
- Remove the three (3) 7mm nuts to remove the speaker (highlighted below).
- With the hardware removed:
- Remove the bracket
- Remove the factory speaker
- With the factory speaker removed, reinstall the armrest bracket with the three (3) 10mm and (1) 7mm nuts (highlighted below).
- Set the new speaker in place on the three (3) studs on the door.
TIP The speaker should be mounted over the armrest bracket (highlighted below).
- Attach the speaker to the door using the three (3) 7mm flat nuts included in the new hardware.
- Attach the speaker wire from the crossover to the terminals of the midrange speaker.
- Secure the crossover to the door panel.
TIP Leave the tweeter line available to hook up the tweeter (highlighted below).
Tweeter Installation
Follow the instructions below to install the tweeter.
- With the factory tweeter removed, place the new tweeter into the trim location.
- With the tweeter secured in the trim, reinstall the trim on the door panel.
NOTE Leave the tweeter wire available to plug into the crossover (highlighted below).
Door Panel Installation
Follow the instructions below to install the door panel.
- Connect the Line Input from the OE wiring to the crossover's Input with the included speaker harness (highlighted below).
- Connect the Tweeter line to the crossover.
- Reconnect the harnesses from the door to their locations on the door panel.
- Connect the harness to the airbag module.
- Connect the door handle cable to the location on the door shown below.
- Line up the clips on the door panel to the door.
- Press the door panel firmly into place.
- Use the manual door lock lever to line up the panel.
- Install the one (1) Philips screw at the top of the door panel.
- Install (1) T-27 bolt at the ABS cover location.
- Reinstall the ABS cover on the door panel.
NOTE Repeat the above steps on the opposite door of the vehicle to complete installation.
