Introduction

The following instructions will guide you through the installation process to replace the Speakers in the factory locations and add amplifiers and a subwoofer to your Ford.

TIP Before you begin, review these instructions thoroughly and ensure that all parts are present and tools are available.

Dash Speakers

Dash Speaker Removal

1. Using a panel tool, lift and unclip the dash speaker grille.

2. Remove the (2) 7mm screws holding the speaker in place.

3. Remove the speaker from the dash and unclip the speaker harness from the speaker.

NOTE In a NON-AMPLIFIED installation, you will not use the factory dash speaker harness, as the kit supplies new wires to run to the amplifier location.

Dash Speaker Installation

1. Secure the 82-5609 speaker adapter to a scrap piece of wood.

2. Using a hole-saw, cut a 3-9/16” (91mm) hole centered into the 82-5609 speaker adapters. The holes need to be cut accurately to leave enough material for the mounting screws.

3. Mark, then drill 5/64” speaker mounting holes into the adapters.

NOTE Do not drill with the speaker in place to prevent shavings from entering the voice-coil gap.

4. Mount the speakers to the adapters using a #1 Phillips screwdriver and the supplied Pl-PPH14 screws.

5. Locate the Vibe speaker wiring that comes with your 4” speakers

6. Connect the INPUT side to the LD-VB-TWTDH

7. Drop the wire into the dash and route it to the radio (ACM) location.
8. Connect the TW and MID lines to the appropriate terminals of the speaker.

8. Secure the speaker in the dash with the previously removed 7mm screws

9. With the speaker secured, reinstall the speaker grill into the dash

Repeat this process on the opposite side of the vehicle

Kick Panel Speakers

Speaker Removal

Driver’s Side

1. Remove the (4) T30 Torx from the grab handle, and remove the handle.

2. Remove the trim panel on the dead pedal to expose (2) 10mm bolts.

3. Remove the (2) 10mm bolts from the dead pedal.

NOTE A socket extension will be necessary.

4. Remove the kick plate from the door sill.

5. Using a panel tool, remove the small panel in the grab handle location

6. Pull and remove the next panel from the door jamb.

7. Pull up on the panel to separate from the door sill, and push out and remove the kick panel from the vehicle.

8. Disconnect the factory speaker harness from the factory speaker (Fig A), remove the (3) 7mm screws securing the factory speaker (Fig B), and remove the speaker.

Passenger Side

1. Remove the (4) T30 Torx from the grab handle and remove the handle.

2. Remove the kick plate from the door sill.

3. Using a panel tool, remove the small panel in the grab handle location.

4. Pull and remove the next panel from the door jamb.

5. Pull up on the panel to separate from the door sill, and push out and remove the kick panel from the vehicle.

6. Disconnect the factory speaker harness from the factory speaker, (Fig A), remove the (3) 7mm screws securing the factory speaker, (Fig B) and remove the speaker.

Speaker Installation

1. Prepare the 82-5605 speaker adapter by removing the break-away tabs to allow the 6.5” speaker to fit in the adapter. Use a utility knife to score the tabs' cut lines, then break them away with pliers or cutters. Trim any remaining plastic from the tabs, flush with the surface, using a file or rotary tool.

2. With a #2 Phillips screwdriver, install the speaker into the speaker adapter using the existing holes and the supplied PPH-81 #8x1” screws. Make sure the adapter's opening is aligned with the speaker terminals.

3. Insert the 72-5602 speaker harness into the speaker adapter opening and connect it to the speaker.

4. Apply the supplied IBSPKGTP gasket tape to the rear mounting surface of the 82-5605 for sealing and rattle prevention.

5. Plug the 72-5602 harness into the factory harness and install the completed speaker assembly into the factory location with the (3) 7mm screws.

6. Reinstall the factory panels.

Follow the same procedure for the opposite side of the vehicle.

Roll Bar Speaker Pod (2 Door & 4 Door)

Removal

1. Unclip and remove the speaker pod grille.

2. Unplug the speaker harness and let it hang until reassembly.
3. Remove (2) T-30 Torx bolts securing the top of the speaker pod bracket to the rollbar.


4. Remove (1) T-30 Torx bolt from the lower part of the speaker pod facing outside of the vehicle.

5. Unclip and remove the speaker pod by pulling towards the inside of the vehicle.

Installation

1. Print the template for both DRIVER and PASSENGER pods.

2. Cut out the templates.

3. Using the supplied templates, mark and cut out a sound-damping pad from the supplied material for the back of each pod.

4. For ease of installation, cut the pad along the indicated line and install the sound damping in two pieces. Press the material firmly in place, avoiding air pockets. Excess scrap may be used to cover the remaining areas inside each pod, but reserve a small piece for the next steps.

5. Press the material firmly in place, avoiding air pockets.

6. Slide the black retaining clip onto the speaker harness provided with the BROPOD until it snaps into place.

7. Route the speaker harness wires through the hole in the speaker pod. Lubricate the grommet with soapy water, place it in the hole, and pull its base from the inside until fully seated.

8. Remove a bit of black butyl from the remaining sound-damping material and apply it around the retaining clip's posts to ensure a seal with the pod.

9. Attach the harness to the speaker pod using the included black retaining clip.

10. Apply a ring of IBSPKGTP gasket tape to the speaker's rear mounting surface to seal and prevent rattling.

11. Prepare the pod by removing the breakaway tabs to allow the 6.5” speaker to fit. Use a utility knife to score the tabs’ cut lines, then break them away with pliers or cutters.
1. Trim any remaining plastic from the tabs, flush with the surface, using a file or rotary tool.

NOTE Be sure to remove all cutting debris from the pod before mounting the speaker.

12. Connect the speaker harness to the Vibe speaker and install the speaker into the pod using 8 of the supplied #8 x true pan head screws into the existing holes in the pod.
1. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver with great caution to avoid slipping and damaging the speaker.

13. Use a T-30 Torx to remove the (2) factory screws attaching the factory bracket to the factory pod.

NOTE The factory bracket will not be reused. Replacement brackets are included with the new pods.

14. Using the removed factory screws, attach the appropriate provided bracket (2-door or 4-door) to the speaker pod.

15. Attach the (1) orange clip onto the post on the side of the pod, and then secure the speaker pod to the vehicle using the factory hardware

16. Route the speaker harness from the vehicle through the channel in the speaker pod.

17. Connect the factory harness to the speaker harness on the BROPOD.
18. Attach the four (4) panel clips to the BROPOD grille.

19. Snap the speaker grille to the speaker pod.

NOTE If there is any rattle from the pod after installation, you can follow some additional steps: A. Wrap around the outside edge of the grille with the fabric tape. Leave a small edge showing around the outside of the grille, and fold the remainder inward.

B. Place the grille inverted on a flat surface and use a screwdriver to ensure the metal grille tabs are fully bent down to the grille shell. Optionally, the tabs may also be glued down with hot glue if available.

Repeat the process above to complete the passenger side.

Signal Source Installation

T-Harness & AX-LOC Install

1. Unclip the driver's side knee trim and pull it down.

2. Remove (1) 7mm screw.

3. Open the glove box and disconnect the dampener.

4. With the dampener removed, allow the glove box to open until you can remove it from the bottom hinges.

5. Remove the glove box from the vehicle and put it aside until reassembly.
6. Remove (1) 7mm screw in the top corner of the glove box opening.

7. Remove (2) T-30 Torx from the grab handle on the center console, and then remove the handle.

8. Pull on the lower control console to separate from the dash.

9. With the control panel separated from the dash, disconnect the (3) connectors and remove the panel.

10. Wire the t-harness into the 8-pin and 4-pin harnesses from the LOC.

11. Wire the (2) AX-LR10 into the 8-pin adapter.

12. Plug the (2) AXLR10 load resistors into the 4-pin harnesses.

13. Unplug the (1) 32-pin connectors from the Radio ACM and plug them into the AX-LOC T-Harness.

14. Route the t-harness behind the glove box to plug into the LOC.
15. Plug the 8-pin harness and the 4-pin harness into the AXLOC.

16. Plug the 4-Channel RCAs into the LOC.

17. Confirm the LOC settings before securing in the dash.

NOTE Based on product availability, kits will ship with a Proscenium LOC or an Axxess LOC. The settings are the same for both. An image of each is provided to display the settings.

18. Plug the 8-Pin LOC-EXT harness into the OE SPEAKER harness that comes from the t-harness.

19. Connect the REMOTE OUT from the 4-pin AX-LOC to the REMOTE OUT line of the LOC-EXT harness.

20. Route the 4-Ch RCAs, LOC-EXT harness and the LD-VB-TWTH down the passenger side of the vehicle to the cargo area where the amp rack will be located.

Amp Rack Assembly

Metra has designed this amp rack to fit into a factory location without any modification to the vehicle.

1. Cut a ½” x 13” strip from the self-adhesive rubber pad shipped with the BAMIT enclosure and apply it to the bottom edge of the amp rack to prevent rattle and squeaking sounds.

2. Mount the 6-Ch DSP amp onto the amp rack location “VIBE AMP #1”. The amp installs inverted with its power and ground terminals facing the distribution block.

2. Mount the distribution block onto the amp rack in the “DIST” location.

3. Mount the 650.1 amp at the amp rack location “VIBE AMP #2” on the black side of the amp rack (with its power and ground terminals facing the distribution block).

4. Install the 8GA power wire from the distribution block to both amplifiers. The 4GA power wire will be installed when you mount the amp rack in the vehicle.

5. Install the 8GA ground wire to each amplifier and trim the excess so that both ring terminals align with the OE ground point on the vehicle, located in the top-right corner of the amp rack.

6. Install the 1.5 RCA from the DSP RCA LOW OUTPUT into the RCA INPUT of the sub amp.

7. Install the 12-pin harness with the BLUE and ORANGE wires into the DSP amp. The BLUE wire will connect to the BLUE/WHITE wire in the 2-pin harness from the AXAMP. The ORANGE wire should be wired to the REMOTE terminal of the sub amp.

8. Install the mounting brackets on the amp rack.

With the amp rack fully assembled, you can proceed to installing it using the instructions in the following sections.

Amp Rack Installation

The cargo area needs some disassembly to pull the passenger-side panel out and allow installation of the amp rack.

Cargo Floor Removal

1. Using a panel tool, pop the cover off of the tie-down to expose (2) 10mm bolts.

2. Remove the (2) 10mm bolts and the tie-down bracket.

3. Use the same process for the remaining (3) tie-down brackets.
4. With all the tie downs removed, remove the cargo floor tray from the vehicle.

5. With the cargo tray removed, use a pry tool to remove the cargo kick plate from the vehicle. The panel will unclip upward.

6. Remove the panel at the bottom of the rear seats, but use a panel tool to pop the panel UP.

Side Panel Removal

With the cargo floor removed, you can now remove the rear side panel.

1. Remove the small panel at the base of the roll bar.
• There are (2) clips that hold the panel in place.

2. Remove the (1) 8mm bolt at the top of the panel.

3. With the bolt removed, pull on the panel to release it from the vehicle.

4. With the panel pulled away from the wall, disconnect the (3) connectors that are attached to the panel components.

5. Continue pulling on the panel to separate it from the vehicle.
6. Remove the kick plate from the rear passenger door.

7. Continue to pull on the panel until it separates from the vehicle.
8. Remove the panel from the vehicle.

Power Wire Installation

1. Remove the kick plate trim on the driver's side of the vehicle to make it easier to run the power wire.
2. Locate the available rubber grommet on the firewall. It is to the left of the brake pedal.

3. Remove the grommet and cut it to allow the 4GA power wire to pass through it.

NOTE This grommet is NOT available on a vehicle with a MANUAL transmission; you will need to use the other factory grommet. Take care not to damage factory wiring if using this grommet.

4. Leave enough wire length in the engine compartment to connect to the fuse holder and the battery.
5. Run the power wire down the driver’s side of the vehicle.
6. When you reach the rear door, pop the panel up to allow the power wire to pass.
7. Run the power wire along the factory wire loom from the driver's side to the passenger side, then connect it to the distribution block on the amp rack.

8. With the power wire run, you can reassemble the driver side panels of the vehicle.

Amp Rack Installation

With the wiring run to the amp rack location, make the connections to the amplifiers.

1. Connect the 4GA power wire into the distribution block with a T-25 Torx.
2. Connect the speaker wires to the DSP amplifier:

3. Connect the RCAs to the DSP amplifier.

4. Connect the speaker wire from the subwoofer to the sub amp BLACK to (-), RED to (+).

5. Set the gains on the subwoofer amp to the following:

6. Pull the factory harness retention clip off the threaded stud. (Fig A)
7. Using a cutting tool, remove the (1) stud. (Fig B)

NOTE Failure to remove this stud will cause issues when securing the amp rack. The stud will not clear the amplifier on the rear of the amp rack.

9. Secure the amp rack brackets to the vehicle with the included hardware. The bottom bracket is attached to the factory floor-mounted stud with the provided M6-1.0 nut and flat washer.
• The rear bracket attaches to the factory hole in the wheel well flange using the provided M6-1.0 x 20mm bolt, M6-1.0 nut, and washers.

10. Connect the ground wires to the factory ground point to the right of the amp rack.

11. With the fuse holder installed, connect the 4GA power wire to the battery under the hood.

Subwoofer Installation

BAMIT12-V4 Hardware

NOTE The BAMIT12-V4 is designed to mount on the tailgates of the Wrangler JK, Wrangler JL, and Ford Bronco. There are two different hardware packs included in the package:

• For models equipped with a factory subwoofer, unplugging it is recommended.
• Some installation steps are more easily completed with a second person
• Running the speaker into the tailgate is required before mounting the enclosure.

1. Using scissors, a straightedge, and a utility knife, cut out the marked areas of the template.

2. Position the template inside the tailgate, using the trim panel's mounting holes as a reference. Once the template is aligned, secure the template to the tailgate with tape.

3. Use a center punch to mark the (5) hole locations for drilling, then remove the template.
4. Using an 11/32” bit, drill the (5) marked locations.

5. Insert the rivet nuts and secure them with a rivet nut setter, ensuring they are fully fastened and tight in the mounting holes. If a rivet nut setter is not available, follow these directions.
1. Insert R1 rivet into the hole, slide a W2 metal washer, an N1 spacer nut, and a W4 tooth lock washer onto one of the B2 bolts.
2. Hand-thread the bolt into the rivet nut until it is hand-tight, then, using a 14mm wrench to hold the spacer nut, start tightening the bolt with an M6 Allen wrench.

3. Ensure the rivet nut remains fully inserted and flat against the panel surface while tightening. The wrench and spacer nut should be held in place and not rotated.

NOTE The rivet nut requires approximately 4 full turns to seat properly. The bolt will get harder to turn when the rivet nut is seated. Once installed, loosen and remove the B2 bolt while holding the spacer nut in place with the wrench.

6. Attach the mounting brackets to the rivet nuts using B2 45mm bolts, W2 metal washer, and W3 rubber washer.

7. Install the speaker wire through the factory wire loom from the cargo area into the tailgate.

8. Secure the speaker wire to the wire loom in the tailgate to the latch side of the door, leaving enough length to plug into the enclosure when installed.
9. Reinstall the trim panel and feed the speaker wire through the panel.

9. Bolt the BAMIT12-V4 to the brackets using the bolts already fitted to the enclosure.

9. Connect the speaker wire into the terminal connector of the enclosure.
1. A jumper wire needs to be inserted into the terminal bridging VC1+ and VC2- (Fig A).
2. Connect the positive wire from the amp to VC2+ (Fig B).
3. Connect the negative wire from the amp to VC1- (Fig B).

4. Insert the wired terminal connector into the terminal on the subwoofer enclosure.

DSP Setup

Once the DSP amplifier has been installed into the vehicle's audio system, loading a vehicle-specific tune can begin. Proper setup ensures the amplifier is installed correctly, allowing optimal audio performance.

The instructions below will guide you through the step-by-step process of connecting the amplifier to the software to load the vehicle-specific tune.

Once the inputs, outputs, and power harness are correctly connected, the final step in the setup process is connecting the software to the amplifier's processor.

Connecting the DSP Software to the Processor

To complete your installation, you must download the VIBE DSP software and your Jeep Tune.

Follow the instructions below to complete this important step.

1. Download and unzip the VIBE DSP software (Microsoft Windows only) for the amplifier (embedded below).

NOTE This Microsoft Windows-only software provides the interface for accessing and loading the amplifier's vehicle-specific tune. You cannot load the tune with the VIBE App.

2. Install the software on your computer following the manufacturer's instructions.
3. Download the below Jeep JL Specific Tune .jib file to your computer (embedded below).

NOTE This tune features preset settings, including time alignment, crossover settings, and equalizer adjustments. These settings allow a personalized audio experience specific to your Jeep.

4. Connect the amplifier to your computer using the appropriate interface cable.

TIP A USB-C cable is required for the Vibe amp.

5. Launch the software.

NOTE The software should detect the connected amplifier automatically. If it does not, follow the software's instructions to establish the connection manually.

6. Click SETTINGS.

7. Click LOAD.

8. Click LOAD FILE.

9. Locate and select the file that you downloaded to your PC in Step 3 (typically the Downloads or Desktop folders).

10. Click Open (or double-click).
11. The program loads the DSP settings from the file to the amplifier, and the settings display on the screen.

12. With the file loaded, click SAVE.

13. Click SAVE FILE.

14. Select and click one of the six (6) available preset locations, and label your tune (such as JL OE AMPED TUNE).

15. Click SAVE DSP to lock the settings into the DSP amplifier.

NOTE This Vibe Audio Kit was tuned on an RTA by a professional audio engineer.

WARNING Metra DOES NOT recommend adjusting any of the preset settings in the programmed DSP tune. Making any changes could degrade the audio quality or potentially damage system components.

Testing The System

1. Turn the vehicle ignition on.

NOTE Ensure the volume is low, but you should hear sound.

2. Select the fade and balance options on the radio. The system should fade and balance as normal.
1. Fade to FRONT and REAR.
2. Balance LEFT and RIGHT.
3. If the FADE and BALANCE are correct and you have output from all the speakers and the subwoofer, the installation is complete.

Once you have loaded your tune and you have a fully functional audio system, you can reassemble the remaining areas of the Bronco.

Troubleshooting

No Audio

If there is no audio:

1. Confirm power connections to amp.
2. Check the INPUT SELECTION on the DSP Program screen. Should be on LOW LEVEL(Figure A).
1. HI LEVEL = No Audio
2. LOW LEVEL = Audio

2. Ensure that the Volume Control on the DSP Program screen is turned up. (Tune setting is -5.3 db) (Figure B).

Fade & Balance Are Incorrect

If your FADE or BALANCE are incorrect, check the RCA connections:
